Expression, and the Death of Originality

Nothing to me is sadder than the loss of a beautiful form of expression.
I’m in a pop punk band, and we try to be original. Point is, though I love our music, we are one of many many pop punk bands.

When you see a local band doing something unique, and doing it well, it’s a breath of fresh air. Nothing should ever be an issue of fan-friendly. You will gain fans by being in love with the creative licks, riffs, and movements that you muster, and by showing that love to those who are willing to listen. Maybe they aren’t the fans you wanted. But why would you stoop to playing generic music to make the generic, boring, regular population like you?

It baffles me to no end. Music is about what’s in the heart of the musician, not what others want.

Never give up on originality.

Asdfghjkl;

Ever have that feeling where everything is warm and bright and nothing could go wrong?

Welcome to my life tonight.

Huh.

Rant #2:

Punchline started as a ska band.

Their bassist talked to me for a good bit of time and told me how impressed he was with The Trabajabas, he had mad respect for them. They all really enjoyed their set.

No one was skanking, I tried to start some skanking during The Trabajabas set but a very tiny group did.

Punchline made a little joke about skanking, harmless. It was not meant to upset. So some kids went out and skanked during that song, no problem, it was okay. The Trabajabas didn’t really care.

But then kids decided to smash talk Punchline? Kids who really had no reason to be upset. I find it irritating that if a band says something you’re not happy with you in turn must totally bash their music and personalities? Because I’m sure you’re 100% perfect, never mean to anyone ever, obviously.

Think things through before you act, because I’m positive that you’ve been a douche and nobody name dropped you about it.

Grinding of the Gears.

I’m sorry. It’s rant time. GO!

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick of couples posting their love ALL OVER sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Sure, cute lyrics once in awhile are fine, but your mushy love posts are just pathetic. Hey, maybe a picture of you two being goofy is alright, but there is absolutely no reason why you should be posting pictures of you kissing your significant other. That’s disgusting and private, and I don’t want to see that. Also, quit clogging my facebook feed with cute songs you got off youtube that you sent to your boo. You could’ve sent them a text about said songs.

Also, when every single post is about your ‘cute, adorable girlfriend’ who’s ‘your rock’ and ‘you’ll love her forever’, you have a seriously problem. There is SO MUCH MORE TO LIFE. A girlfriend or boyfriend is just a nice bonus when everything else has fallen into place.

If you have to post your love for eachother all over public places, something is seriously wrong with your relationship. Call each other, text each other, hang out. But please, for the love of God, stop posting your “love” all over the internet. It’s gross.

Phew. All done!

This Must Be It, Welcome to the New Year

“Together We Will Ring In The New Year ” by Motion City Soundtrack. Ah. The sad reflective song that used to define every new year of my teen years. Until last night.

SvS had a show with Chances Are High and the always amazing Trabajabas. I got to see my beautiful friends, we played a brand new song, and we were so full of life. I couldn’t stop beaming, I felt like I was glowing.

Then, I sat in a circle with some of my closest friends and sang. We laughed. We didn’t stop smiling. Five minutes til the new year, we each grabbed a glass of sparkling cider and together we rang in the new year, not a frown in sight.

I slept over at Laura’s house and we did nothing but laugh and enjoy eachother’s company.

This is going to be a beautiful new year. I just know it.
